We had a lovely time here. The cottage was extremely well equipped and in a very picturesque location with stunning views. We booked two rooms, both were a good size and the benefit of having a living room and a well stocked kitchen cannot be understated. Highly recommended, and we will certainly be back.
We had a really great time at Highfields Barn. The barn is located at a perfect, quiet and private spot amidst the beautiful scenery of the Staffordshire Peak. The seating area in front of the barn is a very nice place to eat or read a book.
Kate is very welcoming and the barn is immaculately clean and very spacious.
We've done many walks in the wonderful White Peak. Especially Wolfescote Dale, the Roaches, the area around Shutlingsloe and the Goyt Valley are very beautiful.
We can recommend Highfields Barn to anyone who loves beautiful scenery, walking and a quiet holiday away from large crowds.
We have just had a short four night stay at Highfields Barn whilst visiting family. This was our 5th or 6th stay! It is so nice to be able to stay somewhere you can reliably know is very clean, comfortable, spacious, peaceful and has everything you need plus a lovely welcome pack and fresh flowers. You can truly relax and soak up the panoramic views whatever the weather.
We recommend the Hartington Farm shop and the Manifold Inn for good food at reasonable prices and there are plenty of other pubs to try too.. A visit to the High Peak Book shop is essential!
We are very grateful for Kate accommodating our short stay booking and really appreciate how lovely she makes the place. It means a lot to us.
Thanks Kate
Andrew and Jane
A very comfortable weekend's stay at Kate's barn. A beautiful part of the country and we managed to get in a walk along the Roaches, through Lud's Church and up to Thor's cave. Very interesting to hear about Kate's experiences of farming and to meet the sheep, particularly receiving some friendly head snuggles from Droopsie! The surrounding pubs were great for food too. Would not hesitate to stay again.
A lovely peaceful place to spend a few days. Great walks nearby and the barn is well-equipped and cosy. We enjoyed the chance to meet the sheep and talk to Kate as well as delicious food in the local pubs.
Back for the 5th time, the first being 2017. Believe me, the barn was as spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable as the first visit. This time we brought friends with us and they loved the place too. There is absolutely nothing missing, Kate has thought of everything, even a nice welcome pack and fresh flowers on the table. There was ample room for 4 of us and enough of everything to accommodate 8. There's plenty of nice places to eat locally. albeit a short car ride away. The peace and tranquillity is second to none. It's a great place to unwind.
Thank you Kate and Nev for letting us stay in your lovely barn once again. We'll be back for another wind down soon.
We made a last-minute decision to come for as many days as we could in the middle of a difficult time, and it was such a good decision! I'd been following Kate on social media for a while, and always had it in mind that we would visit one day, and suddenly this seemed like the perfect opportunity. The whole trip exceeded all our expectations - the barn is so cosy, clean and comfortable and seems to have everything you could possibly think of included! The view is absolutely spectacular, and we even managed our first BBQ of the season, in early April, given the glorious weather. We were there just to relax and unwind, and this really is the perfect place for that. Kate recommended the Reform Inn for a Sunday lunch, and that was absolutely delicious and only a short drive away. We also really enjoyed meeting the flock, a real highlight for this family of Herdwick fans! Kate and Nev are very friendly, welcoming and helpful, including when we initially couldn't say exactly how long we'd be able to stay. And Meg the dog even managed to win over this definite non-dog-person! We will definitely be back to explore the local area, as well as to enjoy again everything that Highfields has to offer. This is a wonderful, magical place to stay - thank you so much for sharing it with us!
Eight of us had a brilliant stay at the barn. All the rooms are very comfortable, with the kitchen and living room both well equipped and cosy. Kate was kind enough to show us their sheep on the farm, and gave us plenty of recommendations for the local area. Plenty of good walks and pubs in the local area, and only 10 minutes to Leek. Would highly recommend and will certainly be back again.
Short stay for two in Highfields Barn. Perhaps less well known corner of the Peak District but very beautiful and near to Buxton and Leek. The barn is spacious, warm, well kept and very clean. Log burner welcome even in June (I’m a southerner - can’t help it). Make your way across the fells to a little corner of wildflower meadows, buttercups, yellow and purple vetch, adders tongue and rattle. The swallows are diving and pirouetting between the barns while curlews serenade the bonny herdwicks. Above it all skylarks and meadow pipits, trying to distract us from their precious nests. The barn is at a kind of crossroads of footpaths, an ideal spot with gentle walks and longer treks on hand, so we stocked up in Buxton, and once the car was there left it to explore on foot. At the top of the track the view is straight from Tolkien or Garner, the Roaches like great downed dragon spines, across to Jodrell Bank and Alderly Edge shining in the evening sun, far off to the west the towers of Fiddlers Ferry a fairy castle on the horizon, and far to the south the Chase, the Wrekin and the Mynd. It’s an evocative landscape and the perfect base to dream from.
Short break this time and it was as perfect as ever. Had a lovely day at the Wool Gathering in Buxton and had plenty of time to enjoy the peace and quiet on the farm. Droopsy and co were adorable as usual and seeing the lambs was just wonderful. Walked up the track a couple of evenings to see the sun set over the Roaches and took hundreds of photos! No doubt we will be back again before too long. Thanks again Kate, Nev and Meg.
