Highfields Barn Reviews from other sites

Over the years since opening the barns, we have met so many lovely people & made some great friends from all over the country & welcomed some oversea visitors.  These are just a few of the lovely comments we have received. Wonderful to know that all the hard work we have done over the years, to create a beautiful place for people to enjoy, & share our life on the farm & the stunning Peak District, that we are so lucky to be able to call home.

A lovely holiday barn, well laid out and comfortable. Wonderful views over Staffordshire moorlands. Good heating system on chilly nights. Wonderful cooker! Well provided kitchen. Long driveway (1 mile) but we were prepared for it. A really great place to say. Delighted. Excellent access to the Peak District, close to the Roaches for walking etc. Could not be better. Owner friendly and welcoming. Access details clear and easy to follow on arrival.

If you are looking for a fantastic property, refurbished to a very high standard and in a secluded picturesque setting this is the place! We only spent 2 nights at Highfields Barn, but it is definitely a property to revisit, and hopefully next time for longer. The location is perfect for walking and although far enough away from main roads to enjoy the peace and quiet, there are easy links to the local towns and the local pub is highly recommended for food, although booking essential as its very popular. Thank you, Kate and family, for a perfect weekend.

Nev and Kate were the most welcoming helpful people you could wish to meet. Nothing is too much trouble. The property is beautiful, well equipped with wonderful views. The location is very peaceful. You would be hard pushed to find a better place. Highly recommend this property.

My husband and I loved our stay. The Barn was beautiful and we couldn’t help but commend Nev for his workmanship and as a couple you can see Kate’s hand in everything too.Their attention to detail was fantastic, couldn’t fault anything. The welcome hamper was 5* way above what is expected so a big thank you to Kate for that too. I usually take lots of extras (bits & bobs) that I always need/want on holiday, but each time I opened cupboards or draws, I would exclaim to my hubby “I don’t believe it, there’s one here!” Very Victor Meldrew. But it shows how Kate’s gone to the nth degree to make sure you have all you need. We adored the area, had a lovely walk through the fields with Kate & her son Oscar and were so thrilled when his hand reared lamb saw him and ran over to play. Bliss! The area is outstanding and we visited lots of places and pub restaurants for meals. The icing on the cake for both of us was, the history of the farm, Len Wards Book and DVD is heart rending and so worthwhile reading/watching, it was an unexpected highlight of our holiday as well as Kate & Nevs own pictorial record of the rebuilding of the Barn. I really, don’t know how they do it all! A lovely family and very talented with Lottie making little things out of the fleeces from their sheep. I know lots of people say they “arrived as strangers but left as friends” in our case that is so very true, we are hoping for another holiday there in the next few weeks but, I’m guessing the Barn will be fully booked, but hope not, if so, there’s always next year. Many, many thanks for a fab holiday.

Highfields barn was a “wow” in all respects. It is very comfortable and well equipped, and the views are superb. There are walks from the front door, and it could not be beaten for a quiet and peaceful get away

This was our second visit to the barn and we received a lovely warm welcome from the owners Kate and Nev, the welcome pack even included gluten free biscuits which they’d kindly remembered from our first visit :-) The barn is perfect; the bed is really comfortable great for a long lie in, we loved the underfloor heating in the bathroom, the spacious & cosy living room and large well equipped kitchen. We took the opportunity to sample the lamb from the farm which was delivered to the door and was some of the best we’d ever tasted. There is plenty of information about local amenities, places to visit and OS maps provided allowing us to plan trips out from the comfort of the sofa in front of the warming woodburning stove. The barn is situated in a beautiful area with some great walks right from the doorstep and is ideally placed to visit the lovely market towns of Leek and Bakewell. We are already planning our next trip as there is so much more to see and do. Highly recommend this holiday barn.

Highfields Barn is very possibly the best place we have ever stayed in – there was nothing that had not been thought of – this is a wonderful location especially if you like peace and quiet – only the sheep to talk to. Kate, Nev and the children are lovely people who really welcomed us to their farm – the close up contact with the lambs was beyond adorable and of course not forgetting Meg the dog she was so friendly. We would give Highfields Barn 20 out of 10.

We had such a great holiday at Highfields Barn. Fabulous escape for a week from the normal rush of life. The Barn facilities were excellent and nothing we personally could add or change. Leading up contact with Kate made arrival and finding our way easy. Kate NevLottie & Oscar are such lovely people. Working hard to keep farming alive so we could enjoy the experience for our week and nothing any trouble. They are pleased for ‘you’ to be there. They gave us some history of the farm, which made us realise how hard it was and is, I won’t spoil in this now but just enjoy on your visit. Herdwick rams just over the track to keep us company, wonderful. We had such a brill time around the region, lots of places to go, explore and see in a tight mileage radius from the barn. We hadn’t visited the area before, but we will certainly be back, and at the ‘barn’. We will be passing on our good time to family and friends.

The accommodation gave a perfect escape being on a farm high on the Staffordshire moors but with easy access to local towns like Leek and Buxton. There is much to do in the area and a week was not enough. The owners were very welcoming. The Barn is fitted and furnished to a high standard. Spotlessly clean with a welcome package and clear concise instructions with everything Including the dish washer. Our expectations were exceeded. There was great attention to detail!

We had a wonderful time in the Peaks. It made it even more wonderful coming back to Highfields Barn which felt like coming back “home” every night. The barn was everything we could have expected. Spacious but cosy with everything you could possibly need with fantastic views. Would thoroughly recommend.

We had a great time staying in this property which is situated in a marvellous setting with extensive uninterrupted views, The weather was good and there were plenty of places to visit a short distance away but it was always good to come back to the well-equipped property for the peace and quiet. Owners were very welcoming and on hand if needed.

Highfields Barn ticked all the boxes for us and had great reviews, so we booked – and we were not disappointed! This is a beautifully converted barn, set in a stunning location with uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. The cottage is spotlessly clean, warm, cosy and comfortable and is extremely well equipped. In fact, if you can’t find it you probably don’t need it! Although the property is situated ‘well off the beaten track’, there is easy access to towns and places of interest in Derbyshire and Cheshire as well as Staffordshire. Thanks, Kate and Nev for making us feel so welcome. We’ll be back but will try to pick a drier week next time!

The Barn was amazing. It is situated in the quiet countryside and is a working farm. The accommodation was fabulous. We felt very lucky to have found such a gem. Everything was well thought out, the cottage was warm and accommodating and you could see that lots of love and thought was put in to fitting it out. It was well insulated and cosy. It was a lovely base. I would definitely recommend it. Thanks to Kate and Nev for making our stay so welcoming and comfy.

Booked a three-night break with friends at Highfields Barn and was so pleased we did. We arrived in the mist (like a scene from Wuthering Heights) to be met by this very cosy barn conversion – walked in and found the log burner already on, providing a nice warm glow. The property is well-equipped and seems to have everything you could possibly need for any type of stay (walking, sight-seeing or just relaxing). We had a ‘welcome pack’ which was a pleasant surprise and they also left a store of coal & logs for the fire (which was enough for the weekend) – again, a nice touch. The owner (Kate) was very helpful and was ‘on the end of the phone’ if needed; although, the Information Book was very comprehensive and included information about the barn, equipment, places to visit and where to eat – as I said, all you needed for our stay. I would recommend Highfields Barn to anyone – it was great and we will return. Thanks Kate.

Barn was excellent, amazing comfort, clean excellent facilities, all you could ask for. The owners are very friendly and helpful, if you are looking for a remote break with a town not too far away, this is the place.
