We had a lovely time in Herdwick Barn. The barn was really cosy, comfortable and Christmas decorated! Kate and Nev are very nice people. A lovely two weeks we had!
And when you are visit Herwick Barn, go to the Reform Inn in Thornecliffe. A good meal and very kindly people!
We fell in love with Herwick Barn, the dog Meg and the woolly sheep!
We found the cottage very comfortable and Nev and Kate were very friendly offering ideas for things to do and even lending me a walking pole. The cottage is lovely and remote (you will need a car!), well equipped including a dehumidifier to dry walking clothes, and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. It was cosy and comfortable with underfloor heating, a log fire and a lovely welcome pack. We totally recommend this if you are looking for a restful break in beautiful countryside with lots of fabulous local walks and good local pubs, especially the Reform and The Lazy Trout.
Had a wonderful stay at Herdwick Barn, very peaceful with proper dark skies! The barn is beautifully renovated and furnished with everything we needed. Great walks directly from the door or so many choices if you want to drive further. Close enough to towns and some lovely independent cafes and shops. We never managed to get to a pub but heard from locals that the Reform is excellent. Would definitely recommend Herdwick Barn. Thank you.
We had a magnificent 8 days in Herdwick Barn! Kate and Nev gave us a warm welcome and were always very helpful. The cottage itself was lovely. It had all we needed. Except maybe a seperate garden to enjoy the lovely scenery. But you do have a place to sit outside. Inside really amazing how Kate and Nev renovated this barn. Maybe a bit dark inside, but that’s only a small issue. All the rooms are very nice decorated. So we would definitely recommend other people to stay in Herdwick Barn!!
Had a lovely stay at Herdwick barn .Kate and Nev very welcoming..The Barn had everything that we needed. It was beautiful throughout and views outside where stunning.Weather not so kind but plenty of attractions nearby that kept us all busy .Will definitely return again.Thank you Kate and Nev for having us stay at your peaceful holiday barns .
We absolutely loved our first stay in Herdwick Barn. The cottage is so well equipped with real attention to detail; comfortable, cozy and everything you might reach for in a kitchen is there. We'd seen some mentions of the access track in other reviews when we booked, but it was absolutely fine in our ordinary car; it's a good surface - not slippy, rutted or something you'll get stuck on; it just tests how secure your teeth are!
We were staying here as a base for exploring the wider Peak District, but you could have just as good a week watching the ever changing scene from the living room window and strolling back up the track to see the incredible 360 degree view. The only problem is you won't want to leave...
Another fantastic stay at Highfields farm, this time in Herdwick barn.
We cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful place. Kate, Nev and their lovely family (must mention Meg of course!) make every stay a special experience. The barns are spotlessly clean, with all the comforts you could possibly need.
This year, we got to meet some newborn lambs, took some great photos of the resident pheasants, curlews, and hares and had a thoroughly wonderful time.
Surrounded by beautiful countryside with some fantastic walks & places to visit, we never want to leave.
Already planning our next visit! A huge thankyou to Kate, Nev & the kids for sharing their space with us. Hope to see you again soon. Xxx
After a frenzied, frenetic and fun week in London, Herdwicks at Highfields Farm was a welcomed respite. Pasture laden hills, dotted with ewes and their lambs, surrounded our home for the next three days; the beautifully renovated Herdwick Barn.
We were greeted by Kate, the shepherdess, and her three pet Herdwick lambs. A bit later, we met Nev, her husband, who welcomed us into the barn. With the lambs’ gentle baaing in the background, we made ourselves at home and fell into a much needed nap. Each morning we were greeted with the peaceful light of well kept farmland, each evening we were lured into a deep restful sleep.
Our three night stay was much too short, but we left with renewed energy, all a-glow with Herdy Happiness. Thank you, Kate and Nev for your kindnesses and hospitality.

Herdwick barn is a lovely place to stay. Kate & Nev made us very welcome and the house has been beautifully finished with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We loved feeding the lambs, meeting the rest of the sheep and hearing the Curlews calling.
We had such a lovely stay at Herwick Barn. Our hosts, Kate and Nev made us feel so welcome and the highlight of our holiday was to be shown round the farm and be introduced to the adorable Herdwick sheep. It is a bumpy drive down to the farm but all worth it. We instantly felt at home in this wonderful, warm, spacious, but cosy and well equipped cottage. We enjoyed staying somewhere so isolated and yet so close to Leek for all your shopping and near fantastic Peak district attractions. Thank you for a fantastic holiday.
