We stayed for three nights in the Herdwick Barn. Kate was fantastic at getting us booked in promptly, despite our late notice request. The barn is lovely — clean, warm, cosy and very well stocked. We felt right at home. Although we didn’t get the opportunity to have a cuddle with any of the sheep, we enjoyed watching them in the field behind the barn. We’ll definitely be back! :)
We had a wonderful stay at Herdwick barn in October. We arrived in the dark so it was a fantastic to wake up the next morning and see the perfectly peaceful location we found ourselves in (and of course the herdies outside of the kitchen window!)
The barn itself is well equipped with everything you could need during your stay, including lots of maps and guides to plan your days out. It was wonderfully cosy to come back to after a Long day out and we wouldn’t hesitate on booking again for another break! Thank you Kate & Nev
Had a very restful and peaceful week at Herdwick Barn in September. The barn is very comfortable and well equipped and situated slightly off the beaten track giving a wonderful escape from fast paced city life; I wish I could have stayed longer. At the top and start of the long driveway on the main road there is a panoramic view of the peaks and during the week I was there we were treated to big skies enabling far reaching views of the Wreakin, and Snowdonia and in the foreground the Roaches and Jodrell Bank. The barn is ideally situated giving access to all parts of the Peaks. Thank you to Kate & Nev for an enjoyable stay and I will definitely book in again.
Herdwick Barn is an absolutely delightful and great value place to stay when visiting the Southern Peak District if you like quiet solitude, dark skies and peace. There are plenty of lovely walks nearby with spectacular views over the moors. Buxton and Leek are an easy drive away. The barn is equipped with everything you could need for your stay, and Kate and Nev are lovely hosts. Plus the herdies are gorgeous of course! Would not hesitate to return for another stay.
Herdwick Barn was an absolute delight to stay at, providing an ideal base for the incredible local walks. Kate could not have been friendlier and the views over the farm are amazing. Highly recommended.
This is a hidden gem of a place to stay. The Barn is really well equipped with everything that you could possibly need with a very thoughtful 'welcome pack' included. Kate and Nev were very friendly and welcoming hosts, The location is ideal for exploring and is ideally situated to visit so many nearby places such as Leek, Bakewell, Buxton, Hartington and of course Chatsworth House, all of which we would recommend. The Reform pub provided an excellent Sunday lunch that could not be faulted and was clearly very very popular, so booking is advisable.
We would absolutely recommend staying at Herdwick Barn and would have no hesitation in returning.
We had a lovely time in Herdwick Barn. The barn was really cosy, comfortable and Christmas decorated! Kate and Nev are very nice people. A lovely two weeks we had!
And when you are visit Herwick Barn, go to the Reform Inn in Thornecliffe. A good meal and very kindly people!
We fell in love with Herwick Barn, the dog Meg and the woolly sheep!
We found the cottage very comfortable and Nev and Kate were very friendly offering ideas for things to do and even lending me a walking pole. The cottage is lovely and remote (you will need a car!), well equipped including a dehumidifier to dry walking clothes, and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. It was cosy and comfortable with underfloor heating, a log fire and a lovely welcome pack. We totally recommend this if you are looking for a restful break in beautiful countryside with lots of fabulous local walks and good local pubs, especially the Reform and The Lazy Trout.
Had a wonderful stay at Herdwick Barn, very peaceful with proper dark skies! The barn is beautifully renovated and furnished with everything we needed. Great walks directly from the door or so many choices if you want to drive further. Close enough to towns and some lovely independent cafes and shops. We never managed to get to a pub but heard from locals that the Reform is excellent. Would definitely recommend Herdwick Barn. Thank you.
We had a magnificent 8 days in Herdwick Barn! Kate and Nev gave us a warm welcome and were always very helpful. The cottage itself was lovely. It had all we needed. Except maybe a seperate garden to enjoy the lovely scenery. But you do have a place to sit outside. Inside really amazing how Kate and Nev renovated this barn. Maybe a bit dark inside, but that’s only a small issue. All the rooms are very nice decorated. So we would definitely recommend other people to stay in Herdwick Barn!!
